Tractor-Drive Workstation Crane for a CNC Machining Cell
Forklifts Out of the Cell.
Forklift Loading Machines?
What We Installed
A free-standing Gorbel workstation crane with tractor drives. The customer chose tractor drives so crane speed stays controlled as parts move around the machinery.
How the Project Came Together
From Challenge to Solution
See how each project came together, from the initial need and installation process to the finished result.
The Problem
Operators load steel parts into a CNC milling machine in a 30 × 60 ft cell. The machines were being loaded by forklift, which was awkward, inefficient and unsafe. The steel chucks and maintenance parts were too heavy to load safely without a crane, and the machines themselves are expensive to hit.
How It Went In
Installing a crane around existing CNC machines would normally be tricky. The modular Gorbel system made it workable, which was one of the reasons the customer chose it.
The Result
Forklifts no longer load the machines. The operator moves parts with the crane at a controlled speed, which protects the operator and the equipment.
