Changing Heavy Rolls?

Warehouse with a blue freestanding workstation crane and yellow bridges over stacks of foam panels and film rolls

What We Installed

  • A free-standing Gorbel workstation crane rated for two tons
  • An R&M electric chain hoist for the lift
  • A custom Bushman spreader beam, made to fit around the diameter of the shaft

How the Project Came Together

From Challenge to Solution

See how each project came together, from the initial need and installation process to the finished result.

The Problem

Multicell's unwinding machine has to be loaded with an air shaft and paper roll, and unloaded again, during production. Loaded, the shaft weighs about 4,000 lbs, which made every changeover difficult.

How It Went In

We met Multicell's operators at the machine to go through the application in person, and worked out a preliminary design with them. We followed with a written proposal and AutoCAD drawings. Once the order was placed, we went back to site and field-measured the approval drawings with the customer. The crane, hoist and spreader beam were then manufactured, and installed at the plant in one working day.

The Result

The 4,000 lb loaded shaft now goes on and off the unwinding machine on the crane, the hoist and the spreader beam, all installed in one working day.
